TECHNICAL DIVING TRAINING

Why technical diving training

Technical diving is not just about going down… Ascending safely is the hardest, longest and most rewarding part of the dive!

Diving in team is essential to monitor each other’s vital signs and handle relative complications, due to the risks of DCI, gas toxicity and narcosis. Additionally, buoyancy control is more difficult, due to the higher displacement of technical gears. It’s a great responsibility to take on for me as much as it is for you. Self-reliance and teamwork are critical.

I cannot give you a good reason for decompression diving… Why should you take a course? You tell me!

That said, my personal reasons are the love for exploration, and the challenge offered by both environmental conditions and decompression obligations.

What is a technical dive

A technical dive is an operation that requires special equipment and special procedures to complete a mission. Every dive can be a technical dive, but not every diver can be a technical diver, not even with a certification! A piece of plastic with your name on it doesn’t mean anything. If you don’t have the right attitude, your certification it’s just a license to kill yourself!

Technical diving is a lifestyle, a state of mind… click here if you want to know more!

A common structure for every technical course

Decompression diving requires you to improve your existing skills and learn new ones, in order to extend your diving range.

These are the three fields where we have to work:

  • Technical equipment configuration: As you learned in your previous courses, familiarize with the equipment is  always the first step! I recommend the use of sidemount configuration for maximum self-reliance.
  • Emergencies management: You have to learn how not to die or cause your team’s death. Otherwise, there is no way you can navigate or ascent safely!
  • Decompression procedures: Master your ability to control your ascent rate, your buoyancy during the stops and how to switch to a deco gas tank.

IANTD decompression courses

I teach IANTD courses because I  firmly agree with the philosophy of my agency. A good attitude is the most important aspect of any diver. this applies to both students and instructors! Be motivated and disciplined, in order to perform effectively and efficiently. Only if  you are realistic and fair to your teammates, you can take critical decisions. Your actions must be beneficial for the whole team!

These are the basic levels for tech diving:

  • ADVANCED NITROX DIVER

Dive at a maximum depth of 42mt/140ft and perform accelerated decompression, using one deco gas. This is your first step into technical diving. It’s time to develop the right mindset for this kind of operations! We can complete the course in a minimum of four days, if you are already trained with technical equipment.

  • TECHNICAL DIVER

Dive at a maximum depth of 51mt/170ft and perform accelerated decompression, using up to two deco gasses. It’s time to extend your range to the limit of air diving, where nitrogen narcosis plays a major role. After the Advanced Nitrox Diver, this is your next step. You will need at least four days to complete it.

The training takes place in open water, either in an open cenote or from a boat in the Caribbean Sea. It’s possible to integrate sidemount courses into the technical training programs, obtaining both certifications.

IANTD courses are performance-based, therefore there is no guarantee of getting certified. If necessary, we will do extra training until the course requirements are met. Otherwise, you can stop and reconsider your priorities. Candidates must be at least 18 years old and a maximum of three per class. Pauses and days off are welcome if scheduled.

Learn how to take care of yourself and your team… and always have a good reason to do decompression!
